abstract = "The Brazilian coastline, with its 7,367 km long along the Atlantic
Ocean, is the predominant low back. However, there are cliffs,
formations that are characterized by high and nearly vertical
escarpments. For its beauty and the possibility of panoramic view,
these natural formations attract tourist interest, often practiced
in an unsustainable way which end up compromising their existence
and increase the risk of landslide. Therefore, in order to protect
the environment from human activities, the government is creating
areas to preserve and / or conserve the environment. This is the
case of Permanent Preservation Area (APA) Tambaba, located on the
southern coast of the state of Para{\'{\i}}ba. The objective of
this work is to identify and quantify the existence of buildings
on the cliffs inserted in APA Tambaba in 2012, based on Law No.
12,651. For both, the Quickbird satellite images of the year 2012
acquired through Google Earth® to visualize buildings, digital
cartographic database containing the limits the APA Tambaba
provided by SUDEMA, GPS for marking points of support and ArcGis
9.3 software available by IFPB for image processing and generation
of data. As a result, it was proven the existence of irregular
buildings corresponding the 22,818.91 m˛, which equates to
approximately 3% of the total area of the APP. As this region is
constantly tourism growth, it is important that governing bodies
conduct periodic inspections to combat irregularities that degrade
these areas cliff.",
